Famous Vegan Fathers

With Father’s Day approaching we wanted to celebrate some of our favourite dads living a vegan lifestyle and promoting animal welfare.

Nick Knowles

Best known for helping transform ordinary people’s lives with the DIY:SOS team, Nick Knowles is a household name – in Britain at least! Knowles has reportedly been vegan for a number of years, and even opened a vegan cafe in Shrewsbury in 2017.

James Cromwell

Oscar nominated James Cromwell has a lot of acting credits under his belt – not just TV and film, he has also been performing on stage since 1970. An important role for the actor was Farmer Arthur Hogget in Babe (1995), as during filming he became vegan after being vegetarian for a number of years.

Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire is an American actor and producer best known for his role as Spider-Man. The father of 2 has been vegetarian since 1992, and transitioned to veganism in 2009.

Bryan Adams

The award winning singer-songwriter gave up eating meat and dairy in 1989. He has always been active in campaining for animal rights and is a huge supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson has been following a vegan lifestyle for a number of years. First known for his role as bartender Woody Boyd in Cheers, the actor has gone on to star in a number of TV shows and films – gaining three Academy Award nominations over the years. Fun fact: in Zombieland, Harrelson plays a character who loves Twinkies, and so the Twinkies were replaced with a vegan alternative made from cornmeal.

Joaquin Phoenix

While not a father yet, Joaquin Phoenix and his partner Rooney Mara have recently announced that they are expecting their first child. We couldn’t leave out the Academy Award winning actor after his outspoken acceptance speeches over the awards season. Phoenix has long been a social activist and supports a number of humanitarian organisations. He regularly promotes veganism and in 2005 narrated Earthlings, a documentary about humanity’s economic dependence on animals. That’s only one of the long list of films and campaigns he has been involved in!
