Food Bank Friday 2019 – thank you!
For the past five years we’ve been running our ‘feel good alternative’ to the same old Black Friday sales you see every year – to help give shoppers a genuine deal and give something back to those in need. As well as offering 20% off almost everything in store, with orders over £30 we also donated a much needed item to the local food bank.
As one of Britain’s busiest food banks, Newcastle West End Foodbank fed an average of 2,000 people a month in the local community last year. From December to early March demand for food parcels more than doubles to around 4,100 people a month – as families struggle to cope with the financial pressures of the festive season. With the use of food banks still increasing according to The Trussell Trust, and this close to Christmas, it’s more important than ever to give what you can.
With your help we’ve been able to donate a total of 6,400 items worth over £10,000 this year, an increase on the 4,289 that were donated last year. Once we receive the final figures, we place a special order through one of our biggest suppliers – Suma Wholefoods – choosing items based on what the food bank has told us they need.
You can find out more about our Black Friday Foodbank offer here.
We want to give a massive thank you to everyone who helped us give this donation to the Newcastle West End Foodbank, and to everyone who has donated through our checkout during the year. You’ve helped us raise over £42,000 so far in 2019 for a range of causes, including Medecins Sans Frontières, Amnesty International, RSPCA, DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee), Whale & Dolphin Conservation and Trees For Life – find out more on our Donations page. You can also support the West End Foodbank while you shop throughout the year using our checkout donation tool.
We’re sure 2020 will be another successful year of charitable donations, and let’s see if we can give more than ever to the West End Foodbank.
