&Sisters was born after mother and daughter duo Lucy and Claire experienced first-hand, the shame and hardship that comes with the lack of access to safe period products and they decided it was time to act.
From this, they dreamt up a model for a new kind of conscious period product – one that was kind to our bodies, kind to the planet and that could genuinely contribute to the fight against period poverty.
Many are forced to stay at home across the world during their periods because they can’t afford period products. &Sisters are dedicated to changing lives around the world and believe education should never come at a cost. Just £5 a year pays for an annual supply of period care products for someone in India and Africa which will make a huge difference to their quality of life.
The brand was also born out of a desire to help smash any stigma that surrounds periods and menstruation. They are proud to be one of the largest sustainable period care brands around and have everything covered depending on frequency and flow whether it be pads, tampons or menstrual cups.
They are also taking the steps to change the wording around period care and are moving away from words such as ‘normal’ and ‘regular’ when labelling their products and are instead choosing to use words such as light/medium/heavy absorbency.
&Sisters also champion ethical, sustainable certified organic cotton. Organic cotton uses 91% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Their organic cotton is sourced according to seasonal availability and comes from several different countries including Tanzania, Turkey, Pakistan and India and it is grown without the need for chemical fertilisers or pesticides.
Organic cotton isn’t just better for our planet, it’s better for your body too! Their organic cotton pads, tampons and liners are hypoallergenic and pH neutral which is perfect for sensitive skin and reduces the risk of irritation and allergies.
By using organic cotton this allows air to flow through their period products which prevents the growth of any bacteria.
&Sisters also have our planet in mind! Every one of their period products is sustainably sourced, biodegradable and recyclable. Not only that, they’re plastic free too!
