The Newcastle West End Food Bank

The Newcastle West End Food Bank opened in 2013 and is one of the busiest foodbanks in the UK. The foodbank offers emergency food assistance to people in the west end of Newcastle. Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Food is donated through schools, churches, businesses and individuals, volunteers sort this food to check it is suitable and in date and pack into boxes ready to be given to people in need.
Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a warm drink or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.

The Newcastle West End Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks spread across the UK.

We partnered with the Newcastle West End Food Bank as it is local to us and also one of the busiest in the country. This means your donations can be sent directly as food items they request, the amount is totalled up and we add a further 20% to this.

Carbon offset delivery – Trees For Life

We appreciate that shipping parcels around the country will have an impact so we offer a carbon offset on your delivery. Offsetting may not be the solution to the climate crisis but it certainly can part of it. We chose to work with Trees for Life, a charity who are re-wilding the Scottish Highlands. Their vision is of a revitalised wild forest in the Highlands of Scotland, providing space for wildlife to flourish and communities to thrive. Not only is planting trees helping rebalance carbon dioxide but it is crucial in supporting everything from insects, birds up to mammals to create a viable ecosystem at a time when so many ecosystems are facing collapse with the destruction of wild habitats.

Since starting to work with Trees for Life the carbon offset scheme has resulted in 17,767 trees being planted! You can keep up to date with the number of trees planted on our grove page.

In 2019 £30,725 was donated to Trees for Life through the carbon offset option!
Ethical Superstore donated a further £632 to Trees for Life as part of our Amazon Prime Day alternative promotion (at the same time also paid our tax, treated our employees with respect and didn’t take advantage of our market share).
