Micro Scooters – making everyday journeys better for people and our planet

The school run scooting revolution

Run the daily school run gauntlet anywhere in the UK, and you will be hard pressed not to see children scooting to school. They’re quicker than walking, easier to negotiate as a family than cycling and more environmentally friendly than taking the car. There has been a school gate scooting revolution, and Micro Scooters are leading the charge.

The ethical choice: Why Micro Scooters matter

Micro doesn’t claim to be perfect, but they do hold themselves accountable for the impact they have on the customers they serve, on the people who make up Team Micro and on the world we live in.

Micro strives to do better. They:

  • engineer every Micro scooter to last generations
  • revamp and rehome used scooters to children in need
  • champion behavioural change and reduce reliance on the car for short journeys.

A commitment to sustainability

Micro designers always challenge themselves to source more sustainable materials. The Micro Eco Range features scooter decks and brakes made from recycled fishing nets, accessories made from recycled plastic bottles and vegan-friendly satchels made from recycled glass.

Micro design and make their scooters from a suite of replaceable parts. This means used scooters can be given some TLC and passed on to the next generation instead of adding to a mountain of landfill.

B Corp certified

In 2022, after a rigorous 18-month assessment period, Micro UK became B Corp certified, underlining their commitment to building a business that does good for the planet and the people on it. Micro hold themselves accountable not just for the quality of the scooters they create but for the nature of the impact they have on the world.

They are proud to be a certified B Corp company – joining other like-minded organisations determined to harness the power of business for their employees, their communities, and the environment.

The first scooter retailer to be carbon neutral

In partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain, Micro measured its carbon emissions and chose to offset them entirely. This made an immediate impact, making sure that the business and every product within it is carbon neutral.

Did you know that using your Mini Micro for 31 consecutive days instead of jumping in the car will recover the carbon cost of making it?

Micro continues to explore every area of their business to find ways to reduce their impact on the environment. It’s a journey of change and discovery. With no easy or quick solution. They take small steps, but important ones.

1% for the Planet

Micro is a proud member of 1% for the Planet – a global network of businesses and individuals working to tackle the environmental crisis. They donate 1% of their Eco Scooter Range sales to vetted non-profit organisations within the 1% for the Planet network.

Micro are firm believers that when we all do a little bit, it adds up to a world of difference.

Micro also donate locally, with 1% of profits from their Eco accessory range donated to the Essex branch of Surfers Against Sewage. Proceeds from staff fundraising projects are split between the local primary school and Lifeboat association on West Mersea Island, where Micro UK HQ is based.

ScooterAid

ScooterAid is Micro’s pioneering scheme that rehouses used scooters. Enabling children in need to enjoy the many benefits of scooting while making sure each scooter has the most extended possible life. The premise is simple.

“In a world where often convenience and cost take priority of conscience, it’s refreshing to have a product line available that is not only durable so that it can be passed on through the family but also Eco-conscious in terms of how it was made. We can teach and inspire the next generation to consider their purchases and how their choices impact on the planet.”

Rebecca, Derbyshire – Micro Scooters Customer.

Every Micro Scooter is built using replaceable parts. So, when your child has outgrown theirs, you can send it back to Micro, and they’ll do the rest. They will recondition and rehome your old Micro Scooter with children across the UK who otherwise would not have the opportunity to scoot. Every pre-loved scooter donated is another child helped.
