Black Mamba Foods
How a small African producer creates big impact
Black Mamba Foods is known for bold chilli sauces, vibrant pestos, and beautifully made jams. But behind every jar is a much bigger story, one rooted in regenerative farming, women’s empowerment, and the belief that food businesses can be a force for good.

A partnership with True Origin
True Origin has partnered with Black Mamba to bring Black Mamba products to the UK because they share the same belief: consumers deserve to know where their food comes from, and producers deserve recognition for the work they do.
Through True Origin, Black Mamba’s products reach conscious shoppers in the UK who care about authenticity, ethics, and impact. That visibility helps strengthen the brand and puts the spotlight on the farmers and women workers who make everything possible.
Why Black Mamba was founded

Black Mamba Foods began in 2010 with a simple but powerful idea: that Eswatini could produce world class food while strengthening local livelihoods and caring for the land.
When co-founder Claudia first arrived in Eswatini as a volunteer, she noticed a striking contradiction. Although around 72% of the population lived in rural areas, more than 90% of the country’s vegetables were imported. Local farmers had the land and skills but not access to markets.
Black Mamba was created to change that. By connecting smallholder farmers with training, fair market access, and regenerative growing practices, the brand set out to build something that supported people as much as products.
Today, Black Mamba works with over 60 smallholder farmers and employs a team that is around 95% women, each one a vital part of the story behind every jar.
Flavour with purpose
What sets Black Mamba products apart isn’t just the heat, it’s the care behind every ingredient.
Their sauces, condiments, pestos and jams are made using organically grown chillies, herbs, fruits and vegetables, cultivated through regenerative, chemical free methods. There are no artificial additives or shortcuts, just thoughtfully grown produce, crafted in small batches.

Each product is hand checked, labelled with pride, and packed with bold flavour that reflects its African roots. Every purchase supports:
- Smallholder farmers earning a fair income
- Women employed in skilled factory roles
- A more sustainable, transparent food system
Challenges in ethical food production
Producing ethical food at scale is never simple. Black Mamba faces many of the same challenges as other values led producers: competing with industrial brands focused on low cost, managing export logistics from a landlocked country and securing funding for sustainable growth.
What keeps the team motivated is the real world impact they see: farmers able to send children to school, communities becoming more resilient, and customers discovering African food with pride and curiosity.
From field to table
Every Black Mamba product begins with smallholder farmers trained in organic and permaculture based methods. No pesticides, no chemicals, just regenerative agriculture that improves soil health and supports climate resilience.

Once harvested, fresh produce is delivered to the Black Mamba factory in Matsapha. There, a highly skilled team of mostly women transforms it into the jams, sauces and condiments now enjoyed internationally.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the process:
- Products are packed in recyclable glass jars
- Less than 3% of waste goes to landfill
- Remaining waste is recycled or composted
- Food safety standards are backed by FSSC22000 certification
It’s a closed loop system built around care, safety, and long term thinking.
