Bake Off – dairy free, not taste free!

We were pleased to see the baking powerhouse Great British Bake Off asking the contestants to challenge themselves with Dairy Free baking this week, and would have quite enjoyed tasting the results – arctic roll anyone? It may be new territory to their viewers or familiar to many of you, but we’re sure you’ll find something new with our great selection of dairy free products and a handy infographic all about dairy free and milk alternatives.

Dairy free and vegan chocolate ranges

These days there is a multitude of selection for milk alternatives, with everything from coconut milk to chocolate oat milk – each has their own strength with vitamins and nutrients, but you’re sure to find ones that you love. They’re great on cereal, in recipes or smoothies, or just on their own. With the Bake Off showing people how to make ice cream with alternatives to dairy, we’re sure to see people attempting all sorts of recipes and we’d love to hear your ideas too.

Here’s a classic you will enjoy:

Classic Coconut Milk Ice Cream
Serves 4
Prep time 30 minutes, total time 30 minutes

Ingredients:
Around 800ml coconut milk, chilled
4 large dates, pitted
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
dash of cinnamon
pinch of sea salt

Method:
Combine all ingredients into a high speed blender or food processor and blend until thick and creamy. If you have an ice cream maker, you can use it and get the easiest and quickest results. After blending the ingredients you simply add the mixture to your maker and let it do the hard work for you. If you don’t have an ice cream maker you can add 1 frozen banana and some ice cubes to thicken, enjoying the mix immediately or leaving in the freezer for 30mins to firm up.

We also have a delicious range of dairy free chocolate, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on your favourite treats. One of our staff favourites is the legendary Vego bar – a vegan chocolate so rich that you would have no clue there’s anything missing!
