To celebrate their 50th birthday, the company have just launched the first products in the world to be voted on by nature. How does that work?
Who are Faith in Nature?
Faith In Nature are the authentic family care company who’ve been putting nature first since their beginnings in 1974. Founder, aromatherapist Rivka Rose, began making her own natural skin and haircare products in her early twenties – and ended up pawning her jewellery to buy the ingredients to start her own business. Her mission was to make effective, natural products more accessible – making it easier for everyone to make better choices for themselves and the planet, every day.
In the eighties, the company pioneered plastic-saving refills and penny-saving bulk, and in 1999, they led the switch to 100% recycled plastic bottles.
Still a family-owned and run business today, Faith In Nature manufacture their naturally-derived, vegan and cruelty-free products for hair, body, household (and even dogs!) in the UK. Everything they make is vegan, cruelty-free and made with 100% natural origin aroma – and they offer the UK’s largest range of refills.
In 2022, Faith In Nature became the first company in the world to appoint Nature to their board of directors. They worked with expert lawyers to rewrite their constitution, giving nature a voice and a vote in how the company is run. Now, an independent Nature Guardian represents the natural world in all their board meetings. Faith In Nature might have been the first business to do this, but they never wanted to be the last, so they shared an open source guide for other businesses on how to appoint nature to their board. And two years on, several other organisations have already done the same thing.

2024 marks Faith In Nature’s 50th anniversary – and what better way to celebrate than with the launch of the first products in the world to be voted on by nature?
“Turning 50 is not about looking back, but looking forward,” says Rivka. “It’s about planting the seeds that will grow our faith in the next 50 years.”
By appointing nature to their board, Faith In Nature have been able to listen carefully to the needs of the natural world. In response, they’ve adapted and improved their formulas – making it even easier for everyone to make better choices for themselves and the planet, every day.
Their liquid haircare and hand and body washes are up from 99% natural origin to 99.5% natural origin – which is huge! Every bottle of these products now contains even more active naturals, including new expertly-formulated base blends of organic ingredients, selected for their benefits to skin and hair. The haircare base blend contains organic nettle, chamomile and rosemary oil, and the hand and body care base blend comprises organic oat, limeflower and elderberry.
Faith In Nature have also carefully sourced ingredients that don’t just work beautifully, but give something back to people and planet. Like shea butter that supports women’s cooperatives in Ghana, tea tree oil that creates koala habitats and Scottish Seaweed that’s hand-harvested by teams trained in the Marine Wildlife Conduct Code. And the company has begun their journey into infinitely recyclable metal, starting with a new range of aluminium bottles. These evolutions are the first fruition of nature’s role as a director of the company.
As Simeon explains, “These are the first products in the world that Nature has actually had an active role in the development of. As a voting board member, Nature has supported the move into 100% recycled and infinitely recyclable aluminium and to Nature positive sourcing of ingredients.”
