I had never watched Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” until a few days ago. And if it had not been for my wife I still would not have watched it. I am sorry to say that I had Al Gore down as another cynical politician and how wrong I was. Every School should show this DVD. Even someone as environmentally sensitive as myself was surprised at the power of this presentation. And it ends on a positive note.

He doesn’t try to score political points although there is one short clip of a Bush Aid saying, “Global Warming is the biggest hoax ever played on the public.”

This DVD is well presented, wonderfully clear and colouful and the facts are scary. Al Gore, as was explained in the additional material I saw, had to be persuaded to include one personal comment about his six year old son. The facy that he was reluctant to use such powerful testimony tells you all you need to know about Al Gore.

Hi Denis, thanks for visiting, and thanks for your comments.

The Government announced plans to send a copy of the film to every secondary school in Scotland and England earlier in the year, and the Swedish Government announced a similar initiative at the end of last year.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that it will be shown, but I know that there are a lot of schools building it into their work plans for PSHE and geography.

I think that David James is correct when he says that what we really need is for a Michael Owen or an Amir Khan actively trying to make a difference and then these initiatives will really take off.
