Product Description

These certified organic cotton non-applicator tampons from Natracare are ideal for light to medium flow days. Designed to expand widthways and gently absorb menstrual flow, they are a kind alternative to conventional period products that tend to contain plastic and additives. These organic tampons are completely biodegradable and compostable as they are made from a natural material and are individually wrapped in recyclable plastic for hygiene.

Natracare only make organic tampons because most are made from a mix of rayon and non-organic cotton, and are commonly chlorine-bleached. Tampons often have a plastic wrapper, contain perfumes and even dyes. Rayon is a highly absorbent fibre which rapidly absorbs menstrual blood but at the same time can also dry out the natural protective mucous lining of the vagina.

Free from chlorine, dioxin bleach, plastics, latex, petroleum derivatives, phthalates, super absorbent gels, GMOs, perfumes and dyes. Suitable for vegans.

Individually wrapped in BPA-free widely recycled plastic
Box of 20 Regular non-applicator tampons, absorbency 6-9g

I am deducting stars for the following reasons:rn- They are wrapped in plastic individually. Even my usual supermarket ones are wrapped in paper.rn- The plastic is especially fiddly to remove.rn- The 'regular' are not as absorbent as other brands. Smaller size tampon overall.

Q: Hi the tampons and towels are great, but they are wrapped / have stuck on, what seems like plastic? Just want to check it's not.rnThanks

A: Hi there, Many thanks for your query. These non-applicator tampons are wrapped in BPA-free recyclable plastic for hygiene reasons. Please see the full statement from the manufacturer below: 'The non-applicator tampons are wrapped in BPA-free, recyclable plastic. The reason being there are medical device regulations that govern our obligation to deliver the tampons to a microbiological standard. We have looked at the use of biodegradable film for the wrapping of non-applicator tampons but unfortunately these films do not prevent bacterial cross over in to the tampons. It is for this reason that we are compelled to use this polypropylene barrier film to make sure that the tampons are safe to use and free from bacteria.' I hope this helps Abigail

About Natracare

Natracare

Natracare was launched by Susie Hewson in 1989, creating the world's first period products designed to protect the health of people who menstruate and the environment. Natracare award winning organic pads, liners, tampons and wipes are made with natural materials, free from plastics, perfumes and chlorine to ensure there are no harsh, irritating ingredients or materials next to your skin.

Natracare don't stop at revolutionising period care, they've taken to campaigning for real change too. Their recent #RenameDontShame campaign aims to put pressure on supermarkets to stop referring to period products as 'sanitary products' or 'feminine hygiene products' as these terms suggest there is something unsanitary or unhygienic about having periods.
