I have used the dryer balls with great success. My laundry and towels are definitely softer with no static. I have also noticed a definite improvement in drying time which, when you have a lot of loads to dry is going to save quite a lot of energy. All in all a fab product.

Q: Does anybody else get a lot of static in the laundry when using these balls? If so is there a way around it?

A: According to the manufacturers one of the key benefits of using Dryer Balls is that they should actually reduce static, no one in the office has any experience of a static problem - but we'll put the question on our Facebook friends to see if any of them has any experience / advice. If you're already a member of Facebook you can go straight to the Ethical Superstore group.
If you're not a member, sign up for a new account and then search for "Ethical Superstore". John

Question asked on 19th Nov 2007

Q: Are the balls noisy as they tumble around the machine?

A: No - they are fairly soft in terms of their surface texture, and in use they tend to work their way into the heart of the load so are well muffled. They are certainly no where near as loud as the annoying metal zip pull on my favourite hoodie... John.

preston asked this question on 22nd Oct 2008

Q: Is it best to place dryer balls in the centre of the washing on top?

A: Many people prefer to start with the dryer balls in the centre, but it shouldn't make too much difference as the spikes on the outside of the balls will enable them to work around the load lifting and separating the clothing. This allows heat and air to circulate more freely, meaning your drying time is reduced. The balls also eliminate the need for fabrics softeners as the balls' specially designed surface nodules physically breakdown the stiffness created by water drying in the fabric, naturally softening your laundry without the need to add chemical softeners or conditioners.

ZW asked this question on 8th Jun 2008

Q: Can you use the balls in the washing machine to soften the clothes, instead of fabric softner?I line dry and not use tumble dryer.

A: I'm afraid there's nothing in the products documentation which covers such usage. John.
