I've got these in my garden in Melbourne, Australia. I wouldn't say they have a 'flickering effect' they flash on and off on about a 6 second rotation that goes from on (low) until the brightest point (3 seconds), and then fade to off (3 seconds) - counting 1 cat&dog, 2 cat&dog etc. We get lots of sun in Oz, but Melbourne is in the south and is pretty cloudy a lot of the time but the lights go for ages. It's autumn here and they come on at dusk (7.30pmish) and are still flashing - although with less brightness - when I'm up at 5am (welcome to my insomnia!), so that's more than nine hours even after a cloudy day. The LEDS are a pretty icy white (not a warm glow - more moonlightish which is fine) and they're housed in star shaped covers (bit naff, but inoffensive at even a minor distance because they just look like flashing lights). I hated the strobing initially so it's worth knowing that you can't change that - there's only an on/off switch, so no choice. But the slow pace isn't photo-epilespy inducing and it's grown on me so I've ordered another set because I'm wanting to show off all my many and varied hanging pots in the courtyard. Shame I'm such a sociopath, because if I invited friends over (if I had any) it'd make the courtyard great for a party even to the wee small hours. Cheers, Liz

Liz from Melbourne here again - same as of previous review. I just got another couple of sets of these lights and they've changed them for the better. Instead of flashing on and off (which is a bit too xmassy) they stay on full all the time. They're brighter, come on earlier and last longer. They really light up my garden - great for coming home late and for for BBQs that go on into the night. Can't recommend them highly enough! Cheers, Liz

Q: Please could you confirm that this product as currently sold in the UK, does not flash on and off. I was a bit concerned reading the first review from a customer in Australia, and in the catalogue the description is a little bit ambiguous, using words like 'twinkling' and 'sparkle'. Thankyou for your help.
A: Hi, no this string of lights doesn't flickr on and off - they provide a constant white light for as long as they have power. I hope this helps. Robyn.
