The ecobutton™ is one of those ideas which are so simple that you wonder why no-one ever thought of it before. Most home computers and laptops feature a little known setting known as 'Eco Mode', which places the machine into an energy saving state, without losing data. When pressed, the ecobutton™ activates your computer's Eco Mode, meaning energy is saved. When you are ready to start working again, simply press the button, and your machine will be instantly reactivated at the same place you left off.
There's an additional bonus, each time your computer is put into 'Eco Mode' the ecobutton™ software records how many carbon units and how much power and money you have saved by using the ecobutton™. Over time this can add up to quite a lot (especially if you have many computers running in an office) and you can use this data to help reduce your carbon footprint as well as your energy bills.
Based on the study figures, by using the ecobutton™ nationally, we could save700,000 tonnes of carbon currently wasted in UK offices. It makes great sense financially too - an average home would save around £50 per year, and nationally we could save £115 million.

Q: Is the eco-button compatible with the intelli-panel?
A: After testing the Eco-Button with the Intellipanel for Desktop Computers this morning, I can confirm that the two products are compatible. When I press the Eco-Button, my desk lamp turns off as well as my computer monitor, and switches back on again when the Eco-Button is reactivated. I hope this helps. Jo.

would that be the "sleep" button on my apple mac laptop?
A: The eco-button is a quick and easy way to put your computer into 'sleep' mode, saving you energy and money, and minimising your carbon footprint. Just hit the button when you're taking a break from your computer, then only one press is required on your return to get back to exactly where you were when you left.
It's a great awareness raiser to help remind you and other users of your computer to utilise the eco mode, and as an added bonus, the Eco-button software records exactly how much power, money and carbon units the device has saved you. Jo.
