I have bought a few water bottles before in an attempt to avoid costly and non-environmentally friendly bottled water, but was always put off by the funny plastic smell and/or looks. This bottle is a lovely shape (kind of half-way between round and flat), very pretty and comes with a holding strap. Not a funny plastic smell or taste in sight! I might just have to get a couple more for the gym and work and...

Yes, its attractive to look at, and its reassuring to have a safe, reusable water bottle...but not very well designed in my opinion. I have just bought two for my daughter's lunch bag but I don't think they will last very long. They seem a bit flimsy —I'm not sure how long the lid is going to last in the dishwasher. The lid is lined with a plastic (?) disk which I just know is going to come out and disappear soon. Probably to be found clogging up my dishwasher. And the position of the strap is very annoying (gets in the way when drinking and not easy to remove) — I have ditched ours.
The bottle would be easier to drink from (especially for children) if there was some sort of spout incorporated in the lid. Currently, my four year old can't manage to hold onto the bottle and drink from the very wide mouth with out spillages. All in all, could do with a rethink. Otherwise I will buy stainless steel next time.

Q: What plastics have been recycled to go into this? Brita mentions HDPE, but what else?
A: The plastics used in manufacturing the Wottle are as listed below
HDPE (High-density polyethylene) - in the bottle, the HDPE, is from 'closed loop recycling', this means that Brita use the reground scrap material from the factory.
TPE (Thermoplastic elastomer) - in the finger grip
PP (Polypropylene) - in the closure

Q: How is manufacturing and using this product more environmentally aware than reusing a regular water bottle?
A: The Wottle is made in the UK from 100% recycled materials, making it more eco-friendly than some other reusable water bottles you might buy which may be produced on the other side of the world (requiring transport to the UK, therefore creating higher carbon emissions), and from non-recycled plastics or metals.
However it is your use of the phrase 'environmentally aware' which really hits the nail on the head, as one of our favourite things about the Wottle is that it is a great awareness-raiser. With Brita and Orla Kiely's name attached to this product, it receives much more attention than the average reusable water bottle, which in turn will hopefully mean that more people will realise that it's better to reuse than to constantly buy bottled water. Jo.
