Biodynamic

Biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic crop cultivation which goes a stage further. This farming techinique observes the seasons, the phases of the moon and planetary constellations to guide sowing, planting and harvesting. Just as the moon gives us the tides, it can influence moisture content in the earth and also plant growth potential, creating a biodynamic calendar which dictates when maximum natural output will be achieved.

Biodynamic agriculture avoids all chemical pesticides or fertilisers with a similar philosophy to more conventional organic farming, instead employing herbal and mineral compounds as fertilisers which have various natural benefits.

This method of farming is an holistic approach whose main aim is to nurture the soil and the life within it, achieving maximum nourishment for roots, healthier plants and a more productive farm.

These theories were first declared by Austrian Philosopher Rudolph Steiner in the early 20th century, however farming in accordance with the planets is not a new theory. It is only in the last few decades that mechanisation and technology have started to replace the age-old knowledge.
