Bats need new habitat, as many of their traditional roosts have been lost during recent years. New buildings often require the provision of bat boxes/roosts as modern construction and building methods don't leave many holes to make into new homes!
In trees, species like the pipistrelle will use higher positioned boxes (around 5m high), although long-eared bats may use a box 1.5m above the ground. On buildings, placing the box high up in the eaves of your house will reduce the likelihood of the bats falling prey to cats or humans.
This bat box has a narrow entrance slot that prevents draughts and discourages predators. The strong, timber construction helps the bat house resist the elements. The Wildlife World bat box is made from high quality, durable fsc certified timber that not only provides longevity for the box but also excellent insulation properties for its new inhabitants.
More information about positioning your new bat box can be found on this fact sheet from The Bat Conservation Trust .
