Trevor Baylis Eco Media Player
The future of digital media players has arrived! Stephen Fry adores it, proclaiming "Eat Trevor's dust, Apple!" in a glowing review of the Eco Media Player in his Guardian column on November 24, 2007.
Here at EthicalSuperstore.com we love a good gadget... and this beats most gadgets hands down! The current wave of digital media players has one crucial flaw - too long away from a source of power, and they run out of juice, and become little more than hi-tech bricks. Trevor Baylis, inventor of the windup radio and all round clever guy has solved this problem in his usual enterprising fashion, whilst creating a piece of kit to make even the most hard to please gadget fanatics purr.
Not content with simply being a piece of technological genius, the Eco Media Player is the very definition of convergence, playing as it does music, video and fm radio, as well as functioning as a torch, sound recorder, photo viewer, mobile phone charger, ebook viewer and data storage device. Oh, and if you want to, you can even record your old vinyl LPs onto it to truly bring your music collection into the digital age! If there's anything else on the market that's as versatile, we'd love to see it... and the trailer you need to carry it around with you.
The Eco Media Player features a 1.8" screen, and 2 gigabytes of internal memory, which holds around 500 songs, and this can be expanded by adding an SD Memory Card.

Press Reviews
"...For all its quirkiness, perhaps because of it, I love this little thing. It could have just traded on the “eco” aspect of its power generation and Baylis’s name. But it offers more than that. It is robust, clever without being pleased with itself, useful and appealing. And, as with people, I like it because it likes me..."

Fantastic device! only real problem is the inability to sort by album/artist etc, the best it can do is a folder heirarchy. I'd advise just bunging all the songs into the main folder otherwise it becomes impractically sluggish. used on shuffle its fine, and with only 2gb memory you can easily scroll to what song you want. mine did become damaged along the speaker outlet, but the replacement service was amazing. sent back on saturday, arrived back to me on tuesday, with a bar of divine choccy to say sorry. excellent customer service would definetly shop here again!
The Swiss Army Knife of the eco-gadget world! When I first learned about the Trevor Baylis Eco Media Player I knew I’d love it when I was in my tent camped at the base of ScaFell Pike in the Lake District, bored with no power left on my iPod. This eco friendly gadget produces 40 minutes audio playback with just one minute of hand cranking, and the Eco Media Player also features video playback, a photo viewer, an FM radio, a voice recorder, a line input recorder, a text reader, and expandable memory. If you’re really in a bind, you can even use it to charge your cell phone and as a flashlight. The Eco Media player’s sound quality is excellent, with a retro-ish equalizer that allows you to adjust the sound to suit your musical personality.

Q: I need a reliable voice recorder for interviews I'll be doing in Africa which will be transcribed. Will this be suitable and if I need an external microphone what would you recommend? Many thanksA: Just tried this out in the office and we were mightily impressed, the test was done utilising the built in microphone, placed on the desk and then I talked...
The voice recorder offers three levels of record quality - 192k bps 128k bps and 64kbps - the test was conducted using the mid (128k bps) check out the result below... John.

Q: Could the line in take input from an external microphone to record live music? How loud is the loudspeaker?
A: Yes the EMP can record from a microphone - depending on the microphone it may need a small pre amp. John.

Q: Hi. Can you record analogue direct to a loaded SD card (and thence onto a larger hard drive) or only to the unit's memory? Looking at using it to transfer record collection onto digital storage. Thanks
A: Yes, you can select between local memory and SD memory before recording commences.
It encodes to mp3 with a selectable recording quality of 64k, 128k, 192k bits/sec.

Q: Hi there, could you please tell me what type of mobile phone is compatable with the eco media player.
A: The eco media is supplied with a range of adaptors which allow it to connect with most leading manufacturers. We have tried it around the office and successfully connected to Nokia (2 different sizes of adaptor - proved useful for those of us with older models), Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola. John

Q: could you advise whether the eco media player can be connected to a speaker system and also how the conversion from vinyl is done
thanks
Leonie
A: The media player can be connected to a variety of speakers systems via 3.5mm headphone socket (lead not supplied).
To record vinyl - using the supplied lead (jack 3.5mm) - connect the music source to the eco media player's dedicated stereo line in socket and the recording can commence. Please note - direct analogue recording from a record deck (turntable) may require the use of “pre-amp” to achieve “line level” recording. Refer to your turntable manufacturer for details.
The eco media player also features a built in microphone - but this is more suited to voice recording applications. John.
