Mongozo beer was created by the Chokwe people and means ‘to your health’ in their native tongue. In Chokwe culture it is a 2 Century old tradition that women brew the beer, and Henriqe Kabia’s great-great grandmother pioneered a new way of brewing; using palm nuts to make beer.
The tradition to share the recipe only with women was one that Henriqe Kabia’s mother broke when she had no daughters and passed down her secret palm nut beer recipe to him.
When Henriqe arrived in the Netherlands as a refugee, he was armed with nothing but that secret recipe which formed the basis of a new and exotic beer line.
There is now a range of flavours to choose from and each one is made with organic and Fairtrade ingredients, ensuring you can enjoy your beer with your conscience clear!
