About Made
Made produces gorgeously unique, high quality jewellery accessories for shoppers who want to look fabulous as well as shop with fair trade ethics in mind. Founded by Cristina Cisilino in 2005 on the basis of a ‘trade not aid’ philosophy, the company employs fabulous designers to come up with great ideas, which are then sourced and created using the distinctive materials and exceptional craftsmanship of East Africa. The company works with disadvantaged communities and craftspeople, believing in empowering them through trade and success.
Made’s largest workshop is in Keren, Nairobi, where they currently employ 30 full-time workers, offering training for the acquisition of new skills, fair living wages, support, and reinvestment into the communities that they work with. Their long-term mission is to build a much larger network of workshops and support centres, offering assistance and opportunities to a wider number of impoverished communities.
Made’s motto is ‘By the People and for the People’ – working together from concept to completion.
