Freeplay Summit Radio
From: Freeplay POVID: 22258
The Freeplay Summit Radio is a compact multi-band radio, which combines unparalled sound quality with the reliability of multiple power sources.
Features include:
- Wind-up, Solar, and Rechargable power options
- 4 wave bands (FM, AM, SW, LW)
- Digital tuning
- 30 station presets
- LCD digital display panel
- Clock and Alarm
Technical information:
Wind-up power is created by an AC alternator driven by the crank handle. Solar power is from an amorphous thin film panel on the radio. The charging adapter is a 6V 100mA AC DC adapter (1.2mm centre pin positive). Rechargable batter, with removable Ni-MH battery pack, 3.6 V. Adaptor charge rate: 24 hours = 100% capacity.
Fully recharged batteries give 20 hours at normal volume. 30 seconds of winding give 30 minutes of radio play at normal volume.
Colour: Champagne Silver
Of all the windup radios we sell, this is my favourite. It is just small enough to travel with while still giving a good sound when used without headphones. The digital screen makes tuning much easier – especially for short wave stations which are always tricky to tune in well. It has Long Wave – ideal for Test Cricket and the shipping forecast if you sail.
The best aspect is the variety of charging methods – windup, mains charger, solar powered or internal battery. Ideal for any environment – hot or cold. The only downsides are that you can’t solar charge while playing and there is no “lock” feature on the buttons. This latter one means that once packed in your bag it can be advertently switched on.

There is a way to lock the buttons so that you won't turn on the radio accidentally...
The Summit has a Lock Function which disables the control buttons, ensuring that none are accidentally activated. Simply press the ALARM SET and TIME SET buttons simultaneously to activate this feature. To deactivate, simultaneously press the same buttons once again.

Q: can you hear the mechanism as it winds down? I have an old Baygen that is very noisy, and so I no longer use it.
Thanks
A: No - the summit is extremely quiet in operation it uses improved wind up technology which has seen a change from the old steel spring mechanism to a direct-charge generator, allowing the user to keep winding for as long as they like - storing all the energy they need - and silent operation. John.
