Saving energy is probably the most important thing you can do for the environment. The Efergy Energy Saving Meter has been developed to make it easy for you to measure and understand the amount of electricity you are using.

The monitor records electricity consumption and converts it into a monetary value, based on the cost price of your electricity. This is recorded by day, week and month, and updates every six seconds, so you can easily see the cost of turning on the tv or making a cup of coffee. Data is stored in the internal memory, and past data can be seen by scrolling through the records.

The box contains:

1 x Efergy Sensor

1x Transmitter

1 x Display Unit

2 x Velcro Fixing Pads

If you're looking to save money and help the planet then this is the gadget for you. It's simple to fit, shows the current cost of your usage in a number of units - £'s, kgCO2 and kWh - and gives immediate results. I now understand just how much it costs to leave lights and electrical appliances on unnecessarily. I'm looking forward to spending the savings this little gem has afforded me:)

This is great. It's really done what I'd hoped, and made us all much more aware of what is using how much power and how we can reduce it.
I was expecting a steady reading and with switching something off to see a sudden change. In fact it is constantly fluctuating as I guess fridges/freezers, etc. are not drawing uniformly. A real eye-opener though. Easy to fit, super easy to use, and the wireless reading is effective throughout our place, thick stone walls and all - wish my phone was the same. All in all a really worthwhile buy.

What a cracking piece of kit! Amazing to find out exactly what each appliance uses - we all know about the no-no of tv's on standby but at 80 watts...and the most surprising thing was the surge protector gang socket for the computer - 80 watts for that too! So I've managed to get the base load (only those things left on that have to be on) down to 40w. And another thing, read and record the usage in the memory BEFORE you change the batteries else it'll be lost.

Q: If this unit is battery based then I assume it will only record a month or two of data because once you change the battery then all the logs are lost, is that correct?

A: We asked Efergy to verify this for you, and Don Munro says:

"Thank you for your query, just to confirm the Efergy will store the data when you are changing the batteries, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask."

Efergy will store up to two years worth of data. We hope that this helps!

Q: can the sensor still work when connect around a 6mm cable or smaller
A: According to the Efergy's instruction booklet the sensor is suitable for use with wires up to 11mm diameter, so this shouldn't be a problem. John.

Q: I have economy 7 metering will this work with that?

A: I'm afraid not. The only energy monitor which can handle economy 7 is the Wattson. John.

Q: What currency does the meter use or can it be set for whatever country you're in? Also can you use it with a 3-phase supply?
A: The Efergy can display currency in either £, $ or euro.
It can be used in conjunction with a 3-phase supply - but to do this an additional two Efergy sensors will be required (one for each phase). John

Q: Is there any way to extract the saved data other than going through the memory with a pen & paper ie USB? Or is there another product that has this capability?
A: I'm afraid pen and paper (or typing the data from the display into a spreadsheet) is the only way with the Efergy. The Wattson however does have USB connectivity and is also supplied with software to conduct analysis. John.

Q: How much energy does the device itself use? Can you turn it off easily / what standby setting does it have?
A: The Efergy is battery rather than mains powered. Two AAA batteries are required for the display unit, and two more for the wireless transmitter/sensor.
The unit is easily switched on and off - and standby is not applicable.
The manufacturers recommend that rechargeable batteries are utilised. John

Q: What does the meter display in different modes - the electrisave meter I have displays unit electricity price set(annoyingly) and Temperature/humidity (usefully)? Also does the device keep a cumulative log and display a breakdown daily/monthly, etc of electricity usage?
A: Efergy displays instantaneous electricity usage in kW, as cost per hour, or as Kg of CO2 emissions.
It does have a memory function and can display details of total electricity usage for today, each of the previous six days, this calendar month and each of the previous 23 months, and for this year. This information is absolutely invaluable and enables you to keep close track of your electricity consumption day by day as it (hopefully) reduces. Navigating the memory functions with Efergy is very simple and intuitive using the buttons on the display unit. John.

Q: What is the range on the transmitter please? I live in a block of flats, meter being on ground floor.
A: Efergy claim that the wireless display has a range of 40-70m. While in open spaces the rage will be longer, tests in the UK show distances up to 4th floors between the transmitter and monitor to be fine.
