The Babyliss Eco Dry hairdryer makes some ambitious claims – declaring itself to have comparable drying powers to a conventional hair dryer but with only half the energy consumption sounds almost too good to be true. Working here at the Ethical Superstore offices gives me advance opportunities to try out impressive sounding products such as this, so I took one of these hair dryers home and gave it a whirl myself. To judge by appearances first of all, this dryer gets top marks. Its sleek white design fits the bill perfectly, and in terms of practicality it’s big enough to feel substantial, but small enough to pop in a weekend bag or your holiday packing when you go away, which is definitely a good thing. In terms of effectiveness, I’d score this handy appliance highly too. With two different main settings as well as a cool air blast function it really did work a treat; and although the temperatures reached aren’t as high as I’d expect from a conventional hair dryer I don’t think that this affected how good it was – in fact it’s probably a good thing for my hair which takes a lot of punishment from my hair straighteners too – I reckon a touch less heat can only be beneficial. Presumably this is part of what reduces the device’s energy consumption too. I don’t know a great deal about the advanced ‘ionic conditioning’ technology which the Eco-dryer boasts, but it certainly left my hair feeling smooth, sleek and, well, dry! And if the energy this hair-dryer conserves in contrast to a conventional 2000w dryer means that I can have an extra seven cups of tea or 11 slices of toast guilt free, then I’m one happy customer. I can confirm that I intend to buy one of these dryers of my very own, which must be the best commendation a product can get.

A recent birthday present which did exactly as it said on the box (which can be recycled or composted).
Hair drying in the past has always been a bit of a chore as I have very thick hair and the process often leaves me hot & bothered and still with damp hair.
I found it took about half the usual time to dry my hair & I managed to keep a cool head.
I have already recommended this to my friends. At £19.95 it's also a great price. The only improvement that could be made would be the introduction of a travel version.

Unlike the other reviewers, I found that the cooler temperature of this hairdryer significantly affected its performance. It took twice as long to dry my hair, potentially negating any energy savings?

Q: Is the eco-hairdryer repairable when it breaks? The main problem with small electricals is that no-one is willing to repair them.
A: The Eco Hair Dryer is a very robust and quality product which should deliver reliable long term service. It's supported by a manufacturer's 3 year guarantee.
Sadly the problem with small electrical repair seems much to do with lack of people and skills to perform the repair rather than with the items themselves.

Q: I have curly hair, is there a defuser attachment for this wonderfull hair dryer that I already own? It's so quiet my 2 year old will actually let me dry her hair for once!
A: This hairdryer has an ionic conditioning blast button which is great for getting a frizz-free shine to your hair, but unfortunately Babyliss does not yet produce a defuser attachment. We'll keep our eyes open for developments though! Jo.
