In the past couple of years I\u2019ve begun suffering from hayfever, which in the grand scheme of things can be relatively tame when we compare it to food allergies and others that can be extremely harmful, but it&#8217;s still a challenge.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pollen.jpg\" alt=\"pollen\" width=\"500\" height=\"289\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pollen.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pollen-300x173.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An allergy is an overreaction to everyday things like pollen, skin care, cleaning products and even food. The immune system tries to fight the substance by making antibodies which then attach themselves to the surface of mast cells present in the skin, nose, eyes, mouth, throat, stomach and gut. The next time you come into contact with that substance, the mast cells identify it as an intruder and produce histamine along with other chemicals, and this is what can cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction. The most common causes of allergic reactions are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pollen<\/li>\n<li>Proteins secreted from house dust mites<\/li>\n<li>Moulds<\/li>\n<li>Foods such as peanuts, tree nuts, eggs and milk<\/li>\n<li>Pets<\/li>\n<li>Insects such as wasps and bees<\/li>\n<li>Medicines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An allergic reaction occurs when someone comes into contact with a substance they are allergic to, and as mentioned earlier the mast cells will produce histamine and other chemicals. Common symptoms of an allergic reaction are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sneezing<\/li>\n<li>Coughing<\/li>\n<li>Sinus Pain<\/li>\n<li>Runny Nose<\/li>\n<li>Nettle Rash\/Hives<\/li>\n<li>Swelling<\/li>\n<li>Itchy eyes, ears, lips, throat and mouth<\/li>\n<li>Shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li>Sickness, vomiting and diarrhoea<\/li>\n<li>Increase in nasal and airway secretions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rates of allergy are increasing in all countries undergoing industrial development, with a significant increase in food allergies particularly in children.
