straight in doing my favourite thing, enjoying a little creative fling.\u00a0 My aim: to fashion Christmas decorations out of goods salvaged from around the office, saving them from landfill and giving them a bright new future&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A lightbulb in one of our photography lamps blew quite spectacularly the other day, so I saved it and turned it into a reindeer in just a few easy steps.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a guide so you can do the same!<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Easy Step-By-Step Guide To Make Your Very Own Lightbulb Reindeer Decoration:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2661\/4149687529_a6ca23a2f3_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Replace your old lightbulbs with new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/category\/electronics-and-appliances\/bulbs\/\">energy saving ones<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Taking the spent lightbulb, gather other useful leftover goods, such as:\n<ul>\n<li>Brown paper\u00a0 (I used some of the brown paper used for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/help-ordering\/#Question5\">packaging parcels<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Flour (I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/products\/doves-farm\/doves-farm-organic-unbleached-white-plain-flour\/\">Doves Farm Plain Flour<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Water<\/li>\n<li>Container<\/li>\n<li>Space<\/li>\n<li>Cardboard (I used a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/recycling\/greener-packaging-for-ethicalsuperstorecom\/\">recycled packaging box<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>A Little Bit of White Paper<\/li>\n<li>Black and Red Pens<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Glue or Sellotape<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make some papier mache paste.\u00a0 Add 1 part flour to 3 parts water in an old container and stir thoroughly until there are no lumps left.\u00a0 You may want to add a little <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/products\/steenbergs\/organic-and-fairtrade-cinnamon-powder\/\">cinnamon<\/a>.\u00a0 This makes it smell a little more festive.<\/li>\n<li>Rip (or cut) strips of brown paper and soak for a while in the papier mache mix.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the lightbulb in the soaked paper, criss-crossing as you go until the whole lightbulb is covered.\u00a0 <em>(You may find you enjoy the experience of allowing water near the lightbulb&#8230;)<\/em> It\u2019s quite tricky to get the papier mache mixture to sit smoothly on a lightbulb because of it&#8217;s shape, but keep going, it\u2019s worth it.<\/li>\n<li>If you like, create a nose by scrunching up some of the soaked paper, putting it on the lightbulb and covering with strips of soaked paper.<\/li>\n<li>Leave to dry thoroughly somewhere fairly warm.\u00a0 I found that the flour in the paste gave a &#8220;frosty&#8221; look to my reindeer, an added bonus!<\/li>\n<li>Now you\u2019re ready to decorate!\u00a0 Take a moment to gather your creative thoughts.<\/li>\n<li>Sketch some antlers to make a template.\u00a0 Draw around it twice on cardboard and cut out two antlers.\u00a0 Attach them to the back of the lightbulb with sellotape or glue.<\/li>\n<li>Colour in the nose red.\u00a0 You have to, it\u2019s Christmas.<\/li>\n<li>Add some eyes.\u00a0 Using the white paper and a black pen, draw and cut out some eyes and attach them to the half-formed reindeer.<\/li>\n<li>Add character with special features.\u00a0 Every reindeer is unique!\u00a0 Eyebrows are the most expressive feature; why not practice on paper before you draw on the decoration?\u00a0 I gave my reindeer a \u201csurprised\u201d face, with a mouth to match and red fuzzy hair made from the decorative paper we use in our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/category\/groceries-and-everyday\/hampers\/\">Christmas Hampers<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And that\u2019s it!\u00a0 Attach some wire or ribbon to your new friend and hang him (or her) in a place where all may admire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We would love to see a whole herd of Recycled-Reindeers this
