Since the birth of the modern environmental movement in1970 it\u2019s been holding the powerful accountable and pushing for real change. It\u2019s the biggest event in the ecological calendar, boasting over a billion participants in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our power, our planet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025 marks the 55<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Earth Day, and the theme this year is \u201cour power, our planet\u201d. The event is focused on renewable energy and specifically calling for global renewable energy generation to be tripled by 2030. As well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, use of renewable energy brings public health benefits, creates jobs, and is also the cheaper option in many cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earth Day is also calling on lawmakers to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>include climate literacy in school curriculums<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>phase out fossil fuels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>invest in green energy infrastructure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s an ambitious goal, but there\u2019s some reason to be optimistic.&nbsp; Great strides have already been made across the planet. Countries such as the US, China and India have made big commitments to the renewable energy cause. But there\u2019s still more to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can I do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Write to your local MP or lawmaker and demand action!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthday.org\/earth-day-2025\/#map\">Check out an event taking place near you<\/a> \u2013 if there isn\u2019t one, you could consider organising it yourself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a commitment to reduce your energy use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even small scale actions like cycling to work or donating old clothes to charity can make a difference \u2013 and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthday.org\/earth-day-2025-social-media-toolkit\/\">spread the word on social media<\/a> to encourage others to do the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is Earth Day \u2013 an annual event aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues and improving the state of our planet.
