\"\"<\/a>The slow cooker has fast become a valuable member of my family; my mum bought me one as a gift last year when my oven died and she promised me it would be save me time and deliver an easy nutritious tasty meal. Boy, was she right!<\/em><\/p>\n

I use my slow cooker mainly for joints, curries, and chilli\u2019s. Following on from a conversation with friends I was amazed when they told me their slow cookers are usually packed away during the spring\/summer months as it\u2019s associated with comfort winter food! Not in our household!<\/p>\n

I decided to try a recipe that is one of our family favourites – Nigella\u2019s Ham in Cola . In the winter its fab with mashed potato and roasted vegetables – in the summer it’s delicious with salads, jacket potatoes and warm breads\u00a0 – for anyone who hasn\u2019t tried it please don\u2019t be put off by the title \u2013 soooo delicious and moreish!<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n

750g Gammon Mild Cure
\n700ml Ubuntu Fairtrade Cola<\/a>
\n1 onion peeled and halved<\/p>\n

2 x tsp Fair Trade Demerara Sugar<\/a>
\n2 x tsp Mustard Powder
\n2 x tbsp of Ubuntu Cola<\/p>\n

Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t always soak gammon but I have left this piece soaking in water overnight in the fridge.
\nRemove skin from Gammon.
\nMix the sugar, mustard, 2 tbsp of Ubuntu cola into a paste and spread over the top of the gammon<\/p>\n

Place the Gammon and onion into the slow cooker and pour over the Ubuntu Cola
\nCook on High for 4 1\/2 hours.
\nSlice and serve with organic brown bread and a warm organic new potato salad with organic honey and mustard dressing.<\/p>\n

(For the salad dressing mix 2 tbsp De Rit Coarse Mustard<\/a> \/ 2 tbsp Organic honey<\/a>, 2tble Organic Olive Oil<\/a> and 3 tbsp Organic honey and cider vinegar<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Serves<\/strong>: 6<\/p>\n

Cost:<\/strong> Gammon \u00a34.99 – Ubuntu Fairtrade Cola \u00a31.59 – Warm Potato Salad \u00a33.00\u00a0 Dove\u2019s Farm Organic bread mix<\/a> – \u00a32.75\u00a0 –\u00a0 \u00a32.05 per serving<\/p>\n
