{"id":10107,"date":"2019-04-15T15:49:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T14:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/?p=10107"},"modified":"2019-06-20T14:00:54","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T13:00:54","slug":"how-to-use-a-shampoo-bar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/blog\/beauty-2\/how-to-use-a-shampoo-bar\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use a Shampoo Bar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As awareness of the world&#8217;s &#8216;plastic problem&#8217; grows, we&#8217;re all looking to make the switch to more eco-friendly everyday products, especially those that are plastic free or drastically minimise our plastic use. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/category\/beauty-health-and-wellbeing\/hair-care\/shampoo-bars\/\">Shampoo bars<\/a> are fast becoming a firm favourite among our customers, and we are constantly expanding our range so you have plenty to choose from!<\/p>\n<p>We currently list a range of shampoo bars from brands Lamazuna, Friendly Soaps and Living Naturally, all of which are free of plastic packaging, free from palm oil, are cruelty free and vegan, as well as being made of natural ingredients to care for your hair without any nasty chemicals &#8211; a feel good choice for you and the planet when compared to conventional shampoos.<\/p>\n<p>Trying something different like a shampoo bar can seem very daunting, and no doubt you&#8217;ll have questions before you make the transition. Thankfully we&#8217;ve put together a handy guide to using one, and what to expect!<\/p>\n<h3>How to use<\/h3>\n<p>Honestly there isn&#8217;t much of a difference between using a shampoo bar and conventional liquid shampoo.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comb out your hair before shampooing<\/li>\n<li>Wet the shampoo bar and lather in your hands before applying the lather to your hair. Alternatively rub the bar directly into your hair to create the lather, it depends on what works for you.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you create lots of lather which is important when using a shampoo bar. You need to work it into your hair to wash away the dirt and extra oils.<\/li>\n<li>Massage the lather into your roots and through the lengths of your hair. Always thoroughly rinse. You can either make your own rinse using water and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/products\/bragg\/bragg-apple-cider-vinegar-with-mother---474ml\/\">apple cider vinegar<\/a> at a 4:1 ratio, or purchase one like the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/products\/living-naturally\/living-naturally-herbal-hair-rinse-conditioner---200ml\/\">Herbal Hair Rinse<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethicalsuperstore.com\/products\/living-naturally\/\">Living Naturally<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve washed your hair with the shampoo bar, spray the hair rinse on to your hair thoroughly from roots to ends and comb through, leave it for around 20 seconds and rinse out. Don&#8217;t worry, the vinegar scent disappears when your hair is dry!<\/p>\n<p>There can be a transitional period when switching to shampoo bars as your hair and scalp adjust to the change, especially if you&#8217;re used to using commercial shampoos with synthetic ingredients. You should give shampoo bars at least a week to rid your hair of old residues, and because they don&#8217;t strip your hair in the same way as detergent based shampoos, you&#8217;re hair might feel different after washing.<\/p>\n<h3>Extra information and tips<\/h3>\n<p>For a few weeks your hair might feel greasier than usual, which is due to commercial soaps stripping your hair of its natural protective oils and your scalp producing more oil to compensate. Your hair and scalp will need a transitional period to detox and re-balance.<\/p>\n<p>Note that if you live in a hard water area it can be difficult to rinse all of the shampoo from your hair. The best way to combat this is to invest in a water softener attachment for your shower, or use an apple cider vinegar rinse after your shampoo bar.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you let your shampoo bar dry out completely after each use too.
