Aarong was established in 1978 as the marketing arm of BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) to provide a stable source of employment for rural artisans. It helps the artisans to help themselves by restoring their pride and self-esteem and reviving Bangladesh's traditional arts and crafts. Aarong currently provides services to more than 30 000 artisans 85% of who are women.
