Q: Hello,
I'm running a gardening project with my primary school. It may sound like a silly question. But does the bumble bee nester attract bees or do we need to supply bees? We are looking to attract more wildlife to our garden. Also, what kind of maintenance would a bumblebee nester require? Thank you.

A: Hi, there are a number of ways of attracting bees to the nest, all of which are explained in the instruction leaflet included with this nester. You can attract bumble bees by setting up a habitat inside the box which they are attracted to, or alternatively, you can try to catch the queen bumble bee, often found searching hedgerows close tot he ground, looking for a nest site. Putting the queen carefully in the nesting box for 24 hours without the chance to escape will mean she will most likely start a nest. This is not as dangerous as you think and is explained in the instruction leaflet.
There is not a huge amount of maintenance for this nester, only once a year as bumblebees are fairly dirty insects and cause quite a mess!

I hope this helps. Robyn.
