I have just started using my sun jar and it is just brilliant! I'm a person that likes to leave a night-light on in the landing and its been on my conscience that this is not eco-friendly. However, the sun jar is extremely great at being a night light because it is not overwhelmingly too bright. i also use it in an evening when watching TV etc and it gives a lovely warm, romantic glow. the Button inside is very useful so that you can turn it off too if you don't want to waste the solar energy. i have also found that you don't need to have left it in a lot of sun for it to last all night. Lovely!
what would be nice is another longer hook so that you could hang it from the wall...

I bought my hubby a sun jar for Valentine's Day 2009 and he loves it.
I was a bit worried it wouldn't work but after a few hours charging in our English winter weather conditions it still emitted several hours of comforting, warm, yellow glow.
We think it's a fab present and have bought one for a friend's 40th later this year.
Would be great present for anyone scared of the dark, for children or for any green loving gadget freaks.
Deserves its 5 Star rating.

I bought a blue sun jar for my sister for Christmas, because their kitchen has many blue glass items in it. I thought the jar would be great to enhance the ambience. They loved it, and have shown all their friends, its becoming the must have thing. Brilliant for portable, free and stylish low level lighting at night and adding to any atmosphere. Cleaner and safer than candles and tee lights too. So i'm back for one for my mum now. Brilliant!

I bought 2 of these, one for me and one for my Aunties birthday, she wasn't that keen on hers, till she had a powercut and even though it was winter sun and had been on for 2 hours she said it still helped make the powercut bearable by making them believe there was some sun.

I have two for my daughters room, though the second one broke when I tried to change the battery.

My daughter is only 6 and she likes a light on from bed time 7-8 ish and through the night if needbe. Some times we forget to put the sunjar on the window sill so I just pop a fully charged battery in, the 1st sun jar is fine the battery holder is very secure to the solar lid and I have changed the battery at least 50 times since we had it, though the second one was very flimsey and the third time I tried to change the battery the battery compartment came away from the solar panel rendering it useless.

These are awesome. I bought one when I started working here, and they're really nice. Mine used to sit in the front window, so it would be on when I got back to the house at night.

Top tip - it needs a good charge before it puts out maximum brightness.

The best way to do this is pop open the lid so that the solar panel is exposed to direct sunlight. Either on a windowsill, or outside in the garden.

Just don't leave it on a concrete step when it's windy. :(

Bought this as a night light for my daughter. Works a treat, good in the garden and even came in handy when camping:)

Jane asked this question on 29th May 2008

Q: How much light does it give out - would one be enough for a 'candlelight' dinner after dark?

A: If you make sure that the Sun Jar has a full charge then there should be enough light for romance! The best way to do this is to pop the sun jar's lid open, so that the solar cell is exposed to full sun for the whole day prior to the evening's entertainment. I'll do a quick test tonight, and let you know tomorrow. Thanks for the question!

Edit: I've tested, and I would say that you're good to go! :)
