I have had my eco-kettle for some time. It is not as good as I had hoped, being rather heavy when full. However, I'm sure it has helped reduce the electricity bill. Even my husband now uses less water when making tea/coffee.

I bought this kettle based on being very satisfied with the previous version. Unfortunately, this kettle does not really match up to its predecssor. It has a tendency to leak when pouring, and is awkward to use. This is a shame, as the previous version was excellent.

I have given this kettle several months of use before writing this, in case it just took getting used to. I like it less and less. It is awkward to use, the water bubbles over the top as it boils, even if the maximum level is not exceeded; the amount of water in the kettle is hard to see; it pours badly and splurts everywhere. It has a small capacity, OK I should have realised this before buying it, and, as the previous writer stated, it is heavy when full. I am eager to buy a 'normal' kettle and simply return to putting in the amount of water I need. I think this is 'greenwash' at it's worst. I am, by the way, generally easily pleased!

This is not a kettle for anyone who uses a teapot! It is impossible to boil enough water to fill the pot and top it up for the second cup. As a teapot not only makes the best tea, but does it in a far less wasteful way than the horrid 'bag in a cup' method, it seems a pity that using a pot means that I have to boil the kettle twice. It does however, boil very quickly.rnI echo the views of others who have said that this kettle is very heavy when full, and that it spits when boiling, even if the water is at the max line.rnHaving bought it, I'll stick with it until it dies, but I won't be buying another I'm afraid.

We bought ours in September 2008 and recently a leak has developed from the main water container, and the leak is getting worse so it will have to go as I suspect it isn't economical to repair it. We are not impressed. What to replace it with though.

Eco Kettle 2 not as good as Eco Kettle 1

Verified product owner I agree with previous posting, I also had EK1 which was very good and this version is not as good as the first version. It only allows a small amount of water in the boiling part, which means that you have to boil the kettle more times, which defeats the object. Can we have Eco Kettle 1 back please.

Ethical Superstore staff review Love the Eco Kettle, we had one in the office for ages. The newest Eco Kettle has a redesigned hand pump to fill the water chamber, much more ergonomic than the original Eco Kettle, the shape reminds me of a gear shift from my old Porsche Boxster, well at least the one I saw on Top Gear last year!

I needed a new kettle some months ago and after much research settled on an electronic eco kettle because it boils water to a variety of temperatures -I am a herbal & green tea drinker. The kettle took a little getting used to, but was fine so long as you remember the steps of filling the separate reservoir and then filling the water level to the amount of water you need to boil. Then it stopped working, or rather stopped boiling the water. I got in touch with the manufacturer direct even though I had bought the product from another shop, and they responded promptly. Then went into hospital and had to ring again when I came out. No nonsense about going back to where I had bought it;after a few questions they sent me by return of post a new base unit foc, and now all is working fine again. I would not recommend this kettle if you have young children or careless people using it, as it seems complicated even if it is not, but for boiling the exact amount of water to the exact temperature it's great.

Q: Apart from design, is this any different from the original Ecokettle? Does the way it works differ? I notice the knob on the top is different so would like to know how it works in comparison with my current model. Thanks
A: The Eco Kettle 2 has been designed with a longer lasting, more reliable heating element, 2.2kW rather than the 3kW element in the original Eco Kettle. The spout has been redesigned to give more controlled and accurate pouring, and it also boils more quietly. However the essentail premise is the same - the Eco Kettle is intended to give you greater control over the amount of water that you boil, thus reducing energy consumption
I hope this helps, Jo.

Q: Some new kettles are heating water to 80 degrees which is supposedly the best temperature for herbal tea drinkers. Does this kettle do that?
A: The Eco Kettle does not have variable temperature settings, but you might be interested to check out the Morphy Richards Ecolectric Kettle which heats to boiling or 85° according to preference.
I hope this helps, Jo.

Q: Is the kettle rated more highly for low usage of energy or for ability to boil small amounts efficiently?
A: The new Eco Kettle has a more reliable and longer lasting 2.2kW stainless steel concealed element. And as Eco Kettle users generally boil less water than traditional kettle users, this reduces energy consumption too.

Q: Is the Eco-kettle BPA free?
A: Hi, BPA is associated with Polycarbonate plastics, and the Eco Kettle does not contain any of these types of plastics, so yes, it is free from BPA!
The Eco Kettle is principally manufactured from high grade, virgin Polypropylene which has been used to manufacture drinking water containers of different types for decades.
I hope this helps.
