I ordered this item yesterday afternoon and it arrived the next day pre lunch!
Got it straight out, and plugged it in to my HTC mobile PDA using the mini USB adapter. It's a dull day here in gateshead, but the power is coming through strong and fast, it's charged 6% of the battery in 15 minutes. Taking into account the phone is on, with a 3G connection and is connecting to 4 email accounts on every minute or so.
I actually purchased this device for my boss who is due to be in a remote part of Scotland, away from electricity, and I'm happy this will suit his needs.
The supplied solarnut will provide 15 minutes of talktime, and 24 hours of standby, so should he be caught short without any sunshine, he knows he'll have some power at hand.
Simply amazing!

Q: Hello
I'm a bit confused about the difference between the power monkey and solar monkey especially as the solar is listed as the sucessor but it cheaper. Can you help? Thanks
A: The Solarmonkey is indeed the sucessor - it uses the same high gain solar panel system, but with the capacity to store collected extra energy within the 'monkey nut' device, meaning that you can still charge your gadgets when the clouds come out. It is more compact than the Powermonkey Explorer, which is reflected in the price. It is worth noting that the Powermonkey's larger solar panel results in a faster charge; and the slave on the Powermonkey also has a display allowing you to see the level of charge stored. I hope this helps. Jo.

Q: I am planning to walk part of the SW Coatal Path and am looking for a weatherproof solar powered mobile phone charger which I can attach to my rucksack. Will the Solarmonkey do the job?I am having difficulty finding a reasonably priced solar charger for backpackers.
A: Hi, from the sound of it, the most suitable charger for your needs is the Freeloader Globetrotter. It is a very versatile piece of kit and the supercharger can clip onto a backpack and has a fully weather resistant case. I hope this helps. Marty

Q: I have an oldish motorola(w220) and an apple i-touch Will the solar-monkey charge both I'm finding it hard to make a decision on which solar charger to get. I'm already saving on my electricity bill as I have a solar radio for bathroom, kitchen an allotment so really want to get as off the grid as I can but not have to fill the window-ledges with chargers
A: Hi, the Solar Monkey comes with an Apple approved iPod connector and a Motorola tip (if it's not the right tip you may be able to use the usb/mini usb connector). As such I think this product does best fit your needs. I hope this helps, Marty.

Q: How do I find out about compatibility for a Nokia 1650, creative Zen Stone Plus MP3 player & a Canon G9 digital camera - either the camera or the battery? I'd like a solar charger that charges all 3!
A: The SolarMonkey comes with many tips, including a standard and mini Nokia, a minu usb, and a female usb tip. Therefore, if your Nokia has one of those adapters, your mp3 player can charge via mini usb and your camera can charge via usb this solar charger will work for you. I hope this helps. Marty

Q: I recently got my Solar Monkey and his Nut. I noticed that my phone only started charging when connected to the Nut. If connected directly to the Monkey (without the Nut), it does not work. Is this a normal feature?rnrnThanks
A: Hi, the Solarmonkey without the solar nut will charge only in direct sunlight. The Solarmonkey Solar panels don't store any charge. The Solarnut can store charge, so if the weather is cloudy, power will still transfer to your device. The solarnut can also be used as a standalone portable power device!
I hope this helps. Robyn.

Q: Hi, please could you tell me if this charger is effective with the new generation ipods? It seems that my ipod only charges using a usb connection to a computer, not to any other device i have tried (i.e. portable sound systems, etc)
Thank you
A: One of the iPod adapters the Solar Monkey comes with should work with the new gen iPods. If not, though, you can purchase more specific tips direct from the manufacturer. i hope this helps. Marty
