If you are going to call your new product Rhino then you need to make sure that it lives up to its name. Thankfully the new wind up radio from Powerplus does just that. It simply looks, and more importantly feels, indesctructible. With its black rubberised shell and the solid feel of the controls, this is a piece of kit that you won't need to treat like a newborn. Featuring an AM / FM radio, and a heavy duty LED flashlight, all powered by either the integral dynamo hand crank (or AA batteries / mains charger (included) if you prefer - but you really shouldn't! more »

Question asked on 13th Dec 2007

Q: I asked a question yesterday regarding your wind up radio which also charged mobile phones. I have noticed the 'rhino' wind up radio. As this radio will be used basically on a building site this maybe better, but do you have one that will charge a phone also. Or how 'tough' is the other radio?

A: The rhino is very tough and ideal for a construction environment but unfortunately it doesn't have the facility to charge a phone. The Eton FR350 radio is reasonably hardy, splash resistant and can charge a phone too - but it's not quite so tough as the rhino. John.

Q: What is the sound quality like on this radio? Is it commparable to the freeplay radios, for example?

A: The sound is very decent for the price, and it is comparable to say the freeplay ranger and eyemax radios.

Q: How long will the radio work for before it needs winding up again? I saw one in a high street shop which needed winding up every 10 mins! Hoping this one is better!

A: 60 seconds of winding will give up to 1 hour’s playtime.
Fully charged the radio will play for up top 20 hours!

Q: is this radio waterproof?

A: No, I'm afraid it isn't. In fact none of the radio's we stock could be classified as waterproof - some, like the Eton FR350 are splash proof, but none are completely waterproof. John
