I tried using this to charge my BlackBerry and after a LOT more than 3 minutes of winding my phone managed to switch on but switch straight off again. Not the 9-11 minutes of talk time as stated.
Definitely not worth the purchase. I'll be buying a solar charger instead.

I connected the FreeCharge 12V to a meter to measure the output. At 12V (regulated), I was able to crank anywhere from an easy 0.5A up to a more difficult 1.5A. This puts the output at 6-18 Watts depending on how fast you want to crank the handle. The little LED will tell you when you are in the 12V range (and approx 6 Watts).
Most Blackberry batteries are in the 5 Watt-Hour range, so to fully charge the Blackberry from dead would take approx 1 hour. 3 minutes of winding would give you 1/20 of a full charge. Blackberry states 6 hours of talk time on a full battery, which means approx 14 minutes from a 3-minute FreeCharge winding (allowing for losses during the charging process).
I am in Canada, and although solar chargers are nice in the summer months, having the FreeCharge on hand means that I am not at the mercy of the sun should I get into a stretch of bad weather. Every expedition that relies on their satellite phone should have one of these.

Q: What is the output available from this device in either Amps or watts please?
A: As the Freecharge does not contain an internal battery, the output is simply 12 volts DC. No further technical information is available at this time. Thomas
