The Waspinator is a fake wasps' nest - an extremely effective deterrant as wasps are very territorial and will aggressively defend their nest against wasps from another colony. When a foraging wasp sees an enemy nest it will rapidly leave the area for fear of being attacked by the nest’s defenders.
Wasps have a vision range of over 6 metres, and at that range they only see shape and colour not detail. So, when they see a Waspinator, they think it’s an enemy nest and leave the area for somewhere safer. Hang in your loft or garage to help prevent wasps nesting.

Q: How does the Waspinator work? We have a wasps nest under our garden shed and I do not want to kill them whilst it is summer. I understand that the wasps will die anyway once it gets cold again!
A: The Waspinator is a fake wasps nest. Wasps are very territorial and will aggressively defend their nest against wasps from another colony. When a foraging wasp sees another wasps nest it will rapidly leave the area for fear of being attacked by the nest's defenders.
Wasps have a very long range of vision and when they see a Waspinator they think it'ss an enemy wasps nest and quickly leave the area for somewhere safer, leaving the area around the Waspinator completely free of wasps
If there is a real wasps nest nearby, and a Waspinator is sited within the area the wasps see as their territory, it will not usually work because the colony's defenders will be sent out to assess the threat of the new 'wasps nest' and will get close enough to realise it is not real.
Foraging wasps - the ones who bother us - will not do this, as it is not their job. Wasp colonies have highly defined roles and responsibilities and behaviour patterns.
Waspinator will then be neutral in effect. If you have a live wasps nest in your roof space or very near to where you want to spend time outdoors, unfortunately there are only two practical choices - one is to put up with them, the other is to kill the wasps. If you decide to destroy the wasps nest and kill the wasps we strongly advise to use a professional controller, wasps nests typically have thousands of wasps inhabiting them.
Having said all this, we have had lots of cases reported to us where Waspinator has worked even though very close to a real wasps nest - nature is a funny thing.
