The blossoms of the Wild Cherry are a clear sign that Spring is here. A much loved and very pretty tree with beautiful blossoms of pink or white flowers. Giving a gift of a Wild Cherry will by far outdo any gift of flowers, and will allow the recipient to enjoy a lifetime of one of the prettiest UK trees. Wild Cherry trees are native to the UK and don’t grow too large and so are ideal for medium to large gardens.
Maximum height 60ft (20m).
It prefers clay soils over chalk and is a common component in beech woods. When well grown and canker free it provides a valuable timber more quickly than any other broadleaved tree.
The small red berries, whilst not poisonous, are not edible. They will however provide a feast for birds in early summer.
Care for your tree
As soon as you receive your tree, plant it into a small plant pot or straight into the ground. If you cannot plant your tree straight away, keep spraying the roots and leaves with water and keep the tree moist and away from direct heat.
