The Celtic 'Tree of Life'. The Rowan tree is said to protect from enchantment and Crosses made of Rowan were often hung over homes to offer protection. It was also thought that a Rowan branch placed in the home on Good Friday would counteract any negative energies and ward off evil forces. In Scotland Rowan berries are still used to make wine and also jam which is traditionally eaten with game. The Rowan is a pretty tree and suitable for most gardens. Tree supplied is 20-60cm tall.

Normally forming a multi stemmed shrubby tree, it can grow upto 30ft (9m). It forms an attractive tree with white flowers, bright red berries and a delicate leaf form. Various cultivars are widely planted to decorate streets and gardens. The wild form is commonly associated with upland woodlands although it will thrive almost anywhere and provide an attractive edge tree for wildlife. Once planted to protect farm cottages from itinerant witches it can still be seen around many farm yards. Berries can be made into jelly, high in Vitamin C.

Care for your tree

As soon as you receive your tree, plant it into a small plant pot or straight into the ground. If you cannot plant your tree straight away, keep spraying the roots and leaves with water and keep the tree moist and away from direct heat.
