Polystyrene packaging, as well as being environmentally rubbish, is also ridiculously bad for distance related calculations... until now. Those brainy bods at Remarkable took a load of polystyrene packaging destined for the landfill, and turned it into a foot long, bright pink ruler. Rubbish for stopping your vase getting smashed, awesome for measuring stuff and drawing straight lines. Remarkable.
The Remarkable story began with the humble pencil. In 1996 Edward Douglas Miller started to look at what could be made from waste materials in the UK. He started by experimenting with plastic cups, with the aim of turning one into a pencil... just because it had never been done before, and to prove that you could take one everyday, throwaway item that would usually end up in landfill, and turn it into something useful, and most importantly, fun.
