The Peters Projection World Map is one of the most stimulating, and controversial, images of the world.
Traditional maps have tended to show countries incorrectly due to proportion to one another, to the advantage of the European colonial powers, while the southern continents (Africa, South America and Australia) are shown far too small.
The Peters map shows countries in proportion to their relative sizes. It is based upon Arno Peters' decimal grid which divides the surface of the earth into 100 longitudinal fields of equal width and 100 latitudinal fields of equal height.
The challenge of any world map is to represent a round earth on a flat surface. There are literally thousands of map projections. Each has certain strengths and corresponding weaknesses, but the Peters World Map is considered to be a superior and more accurate version.
This large map is ideal to be hung on a wall, and is laminated, providing a robust quality to it.
