The estate of Giacomo Marengo is located on the hills between Arezzo and Siena, in the town of San Savino. The vineyard is owned by Emilio Marengo, a researcher and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Piedmont, who is a strong believer of natural methods in the cultivation of the vineyards. Castello Rapale is the name of a medieval Castle dominating the valley of Valdambraand surrounded by the Sangiovese’s vineyards that provide the grapes for the wine. The hand picked grapes, after being crushed and destalked, are fermented at a controlled temperature, and then put into medium size Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months and for at least another 3 months in the bottle. The result is a fresh wine with a medium body and a good structure. A nice ruby colour and with a nose and mouth of red fruits, like redcurrant and cherry.
