The wine takes its name from the combination of the two grapes that make it, 40% syrah, the old world name for Shiraz, and 60% Cesanese, a native grape from Latium which finds its ideal setting in the volcanic soil of the vineyards of the estate L’Olivella. While we are all familiar with the international variety of Syrah, which varies from country to country, very few know of the Italian grape called Cesanese - a grape that can only be found in and around Rome. Now enjoying a revival of popularity, only a few years ago the grape was used mainly for blending and was rarely written on the label. This wine is only made in the best vintages and the current production is about 3000 bottles. The wine has a ruby red colour with purple tints. On the nose it has a wide bouquet of black fruits, spices and nuts. In the mouth, it is a full bodied wine, persistent and light.
