Product Descriptionback to top »

Designed to tackle the problem of gas hobs which burn gas inefficiently resulting in wasted energy, un-burnt bi-products and lost heating costing you money! The manufacturers of the Gas Energy Saver claim it can solve this problem; with its special catalytic alloy disc that fits neatly over your hob heating to over 1000 degrees C, it helps to convert un-burnt gas to heat and energy. This can save heating time, cooking your food faster with less gas. The special stainless alloy is dishwasher proof. Measures 14cm x 1cm. Fits all gas hobs.

I was really excited when I saw this product. So many of the energy saving gadgets and gizmos available seem to be focused upon reducing electricity usage, I was pleased to see something which could potentially help cut my gas bill.
The logic as to how the product delivered savings seemed straightforward and its installation appeared hassle free.
As a product intended for universal fitting (rather than being specific to a particular model or brand of gas hob) I was disappointed in the stability of its fit on my particular hob. That doesn’t mean it may not work well for others.
The instructions didn’t really address use (focusing on installation) so I was left in doubt as to whether it was appropriate to use it with a small pan. My milk pan has a diameter less than the edge of the Gas Saver so it would sit directly upon the wires and I didn’t want to try this.
The product should be commended for its simplicity – however I have to rate it as average due to the fit issues I experienced.

Gas Energy Saver ( Not )

I recently bought the Gas Energy Saver expecting to reduce my gas consumption marginally. On receiving the G.E.S. I decided to put it to the test. After filling a whistling kettle with 1/2 pint of water I put it on to boil. This it did in 5 mins. The kettle was emptied, cooled, refilled with 1/2 pint of water and returned to the gas ring, only this time using the G.E.S. It took 7.5mins to boil. After repeating the test several times and getting the same result I returned the item to the store.

Seemed to use more gas not less

I used this product for some time and eventually stopped as I seemed to be using more gas not less to do my cooking (I cook on the hob a lot). We had a problem with a flooded meter and I even queried the gas man about it and we both reckon you spend too much energy heating up the appliance and it prevents the gas making enough contact with the pan. I'm afraid I just don't believe the claims about it. My sister (who gave me mine for Christmas and bought one for herself) had exactly the same opinion and her husband runs an environmental consultancy company so we're all keen to save energy (hence asking her for this for Christmas). Sorry but think you should test it yourselves scientifically before continuing to sell it as it might tarnish people's view of the other products you are selling. If I'm completely wrong please let me know and I'll have another bash with it.

Q: Does this fit all sizes of gas 'rings'? Mine has two large and two small ones. From the photo, it looks as though it fits over the top of the pan supports - are pans intended to sit directly on the product?

A: It is designed for universal fitting; therefore the degree of 'fit' will vary depending on ring size. However, it is designed for all pan types (pans do indeed sit on the product).

Q: Do you have any test results for the gas energy saver (eg. how long it takes to bring water to the boil with and without the gadget)?

A: We have received test reports from the manufacturers which indicate an average 14% reduction in heating time based on heating 500ml of water from 18.5 degrees centigrade to 100 degrees centigrade using a medium sized (1.5 litre) saucepan on the small burner of a four burner gas hob.
