Mouthwatering, elegant Rioja from an organic vineyard.
Tasting Notes:
This is really elegant, refined Rioja (in a St Emilion as opposed to St Estèphe style). The soft red fruits are given a mouthwatering quality from 14 months in oak and the wine has lovely balance and length. Highly recommended.
More Information:
Vines have been grown in Abalos for many, many centuries. There are still ancient stone wine presses in the fields, as featured on the label. The Puelles family has lived in Abalos for longer than anyone can remember and their winemaking tradition goes back just as far. The current generation, Jesus and Felix Puelles, have enlarged the Molino (old mill) and converted it into a lovely wine cellar, standing alongside the old 17th century water mill which has belonged to the family since 1844. The single vineyard bodega is planted with Tempranillo and organic growing methods are used as the Puelles family believe that quality comes from a collaboration between their passion for excellence and the natural expression of the soil, climate and grape variety. It is possible to stay at the bodega.
