Gold medal winning dessert wine made from lusciously sweet Muscat grapes.
Tasting Notes:
Delightful bouquet of peaches and honey with a floral, grapey character that comes through on the palate. This is sweet without being heavy and sticky - it remains fresh and lively on the tongue and has a lovely, long, moreish finish. You could try this with creamy blue cheese and fruity desserts. Or forget dessert and simply have a glass of this on its own after dinner!
More Information:
This wine received a gold medal at the 2007 Muscats du Monde competition and was judged to be one of the top 10 Muscats in the world! (Muscats from 23 different countries were judged over the course of two days.)Michel and Martine Poudou's tiny vineyard of 6.4 hectares is planted with Muscat à Petit Grains at 250m altitude. The soil is very stony and the yield is very low at only 18 hl/ha.The vineyard uses biodynamic practices and the wine is made by picking the exceptionally ripe, sweet Muscat grapes into baskets, giving them seven hours skin contact at a cool 8 degrees Centigrade, fermenting to 8% alcohol so that half of the sugar remains unfermented and then stopping fermentation by gradually adding wine alcohol until it reaches 15%.
