Researchers at Barts and The London School of Medicine found that volunteers' blood pressure was reduced within just 1 hour of drinking beetroot juice, with a peak drop occurring 3-4 hours after consumption. Some degree of reduction continued to be observed until up to 24 hours afterwards.
Beetroot is naturally rich in iron, boron and folic acid and very high in anti-oxidants, so it certainly deserves its reputation as a superfood! One 150ml glass is also a great way to get one of your recommended five-a-day portions of fresh fruit and vegetables.
