great as a body soap, but disappointing as a shampoo
Rated 4 out of 5 Submitted by
Susan on 29th Jul 2009
Verified product owner After reading on the bottle that it could be used as 'a conditioning shampoo on very dry hair', I thought that it may be a lovely natural alternative to the usual chemical shampoos. I was wrong! It lathered up well but when it was rinsed out it left my hair very squeaky clean, and even after conditioning I couldn't get a comb through it, and had to wash my hair again with my usual moisturising shampoo. This was disappointing, as it felt like I had just used a normal body soap on my hair. I'm not sure what the effect would be on oily hair.
However, it was lovely to use as a body soap, although I still would not recommend it if you have very dry skin as it may dry it out further. I think it may be more suitable for oily skin/hair.
Overall, I would give it a 4/5 rating as a body soap, 0/5 as a shampoo!

This is a beautiful soap, that makes your skin feel moisturised and healthy. I originally bought it for my husband who suffers from dry patches on his skin, but soon 'borrowed' it for my own use! Unlike Susan I prefer this to my usual chemical loaded shampoo, it really suits my hair. Results are full bodied and manageable, I guess it depends on your hair type. Mine is naturally wavy, and African Black soap gets it clean but leaves my hair with enough body to settle into its waves without 'flopping'. Recommended.
