National Allotment Week

Promoting awareness of allotments, locally and nationally.

Next monday, the 11th August sees the beginning of National Allotments Week, which runs until Sunday 17th August.

National Allotments week aims to raise awareness and availability of allotments both locally and nationally and to show the public and the local authorities the strength of support and interest for the heritage of allotment culture.

National Allotments Week is promoted by the National Allotment Gardens Trust in partnership with the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners.

  1. I’d love to have an allotment but in South London the waiting lists are all about 5 years…..gutted 🙁

My allotment has improved my ME and got me off anti-depressants I think it can be another form of therapy so Its a shame when people can’t get one. Ask around on allotments there may be people who would share one if they’re struggling or If you know an elderly person with a large garden you could look after and share the fruits of your labours.

I would love to have an allotment within walking distance from home, unfortunately my town has none and the town clerk was blunt about us not getting any. I have had to beg a small allotment from another town so I have to drive there this uses fuel and I can’t just pop in when I have a spare 1/2 hour.

I’ve had my allotment since February and although it is a lot of hard work, it has completely changed my life for the better. I go for an hour or so most days after work and you can just feel the stresses and strains of the day just melting away – great, as by the time I get home I am totally relaxed. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to get one.
