Ecover – Feel Good Cleaning

Here at Ethical Superstore we have a thing for eco-friendly cleaning, which is why we love Ecover, the world’s largest producer of ecological detergents and cleaning products. Ecover was born in a small cottage in a rural town in Belgium after a group of eco-warriors discovered that phosphates found in laundry and dishwasher products were polluting our water systems. In response they created phosphate free washing powder – bearing in mind this was over 30 years ago at a time when you wouldn’t dream of hearing about ‘sustainability’ or ‘environmentally friendly cleaning’ – but the team at Ecover were passionate and dedicated enough which resulted in their products appearing in health food stores around Europe.

Over the years, Ecover have developed and expanded their range which now includes eco-friendly laundry liquid, cruelty-free hand soap and even biodegradable compost bags, plus they now have an Ecover Zero range which has been approved by Allergy UK, so it’s suitable for the most sensitive skin.

You may be wondering how laundry liquid, or washing up liquid, or even hand soap can be ‘eco-friendly’. Well first of all Ecover’s products are made from natural, sustainable plant-based ingredients which leave fewer unnecessary residues, biodegrade faster and have less impact on aquatic life than regular cleaning brands. It’s not only the ingredients which are eco-friendly though, Ecover use energy efficient processes to make their cleaning products, and the new factory in France is powered by 100% renewable energy. And it doesn’t even stop there! Ecover have developed their plastic packaging from raw sugar cane, which means you don’t even have to worry about the plastic when you’re finished cleaning as it is 100% renewable, reusable and recyclable.
