Ethicalsuperstore.com, the Gateshead-based ‘ethical Amazon’, has seen a huge rise in consumers easing their eco conscience by purchasing from the vast array of fair trade, organic and eco-friendly products available through the online retailer, with December 1st recorded as its busiest day, pre-Christmas.
Sales in December topped £700,000 making it their most successful month since launching from a tiny Central Newcastle office just five years ago.
Strong growth was reported in all its key seasonal merchandise categories, for both online and mail order catalogue sales, including ethical gifts, eco-friendly gadgets, and home and garden products and organic. Food and drink sales continued to show significant growth particularly products from leading ethical brands including Suma Wholefoods, Ecover, Cafedirect, Traidcraft, and Divine Chocolate,.
Vic Morgan, Co-founder commented: “We are once again delighted with our results for December. This proves once again that despite the general economic climate , the ethical consumer is helping pave the road of economic recovery with ethical purchasing, making a positive difference in the world without compromising on quality.
“People care about the world they live in, and the limited resources some people have at the moment make them even more careful in choosing a retailer whose ethics are more than skin deep.”
The online retailer has also noted a strong start to 2010, with post Christmas sales so far in January up 150 per cent on last year.
Ethicalsuperstore.com, the one-stop shop for all things fair-trade, eco friendly and organic, was founded five years ago, and has the widest range of ethical brands and products online.
